I am 22 and have always wanted to play piano. I don’t want to be a concert pianist, but would rather be able to someday be able to play by ear or improvise while reading sheet music. I’ve started playing this scale I found online everyday and have noticed some improvement in my hand coordination. (Hanon 1) I believe that is which it is. My main goal is to be able to read sheet music, improv a little, and be able to play stuff by ear.
I just don’t have the money to hire a teacher right now being in college. My college also doesn’t offer any piano classes either.
So I was wondering what are some good exercises or videos of exercises that I can use to try and learn how to read sheet music, play by ear, better my coordination, and just become a better piano player overall.
Thanks for any help or suggestions

Playing by ear involves recognizing chord changes when you hear them, and being able to pick out a melody note. I can’t hear a chord and tell you which chord it is, but I know if you go from a I chord to a IV chord or V chord or whatever. This comes with listening to chord changes repeatedly, and if you have a musical ear, you will eventually recognize chord changes. Also I know whether you are playing a major chord, minor chord, 7th or dimished chord.

well have a friend or someone that wouldnt lie to you about anything and have them play a couple notes or something on the piano and see if you can match that then let them make it longer. to learn how to read music just go on line and that would help alot good luck! oh and btw listening to other instruments is a little different cause you have to transpose
