I want to start playing piano by ear but I just don’t know how match up chords, anyy tips?

I know this has been asked a thousand times but I also understand that it varies from person to person.

I am already 19 years old. Is it already too late?

They say talent has a lot to do with it. I don’t consider myself very talented when it comes to music or arts for that matter but I’m willing to put the time and effort to learn.

Most answers say it depends on whether you can read music or play another instrument. I have started playing piano sense my senior year in HS; it’s been one year sense I’ve been taking private piano, and I’m at a point where I can play a variation of pachebel in cannon D and some originol pieces written by Bach such as minute in G major and minor. I have tried and failed at playing by ear.

I know it also depends on why I want to learn. I don’t wanna join a band or play publicly, I just want a pastime and to be able to play pieces like "How to save a Life", "Boston", "Let it Be" and other songs with around the same difficulty without having to search endlessly for piano sheets.

I am now at a community college and would love to have a fun class that can help improve my piano skills like writing my own music. (How awesome is that?)

My private piano teacher doesn’t teach me how to play by ear and I’m on my own on this one.

1) So my question is how long will it take? How will I do it?
2) Is playing piano by ear a talent? (impossible to play at an old age).

3) What is ear training 101? What are you’re experiences taking that class?
4) Do I need to take music theory 101 to take ear training 101?

My parents never considered giving me piano lessons and I’ve been working to take private lessons now…

i love music and i loooove to sing i listen to music all the time:) i play piano and i learn new songs on youtube i dont know how to read music tho (or not yet) but i look up tutorials for songs .is it a good skill to have by playing piano by ear without knowing how to read music? nd by the way i play really good thats what my friends and family say:) thnx
oh and i just know where the keys are too if ur wondering…? i memorize them i guess:)
nd yeah i do know how to read simple piano notes and what not i learned that but i think its easier to just listen nd look at tutorials:)

I’ve been playing piano by ear since I was 4, and I took lessons for about 3 years, but I was more advanced than the others. I regret quitting lessons now (I’m 14) and I really want to learn how to read sheet music in a short period of time. Any super helpful sites that I can go to??????
do you think it would be okay if my grandma would help me? she’s been playing piano since she was 7 and she’s really good. do you think she could help me? because she knows how advanced I am and other teachers don’t quite get how I learn things.

My daughter is a musical genious, no joke. Parents say all the time, "my kid is this or that", but from the age of 4, she began playing piano by ear. She is 17 and plays 8 different instruments proficently, from rock to classical to soul to country. How can I help her find courage and beliefe in her amazing God given talent?

I’m 14 years old,i’ve been playing piano by ear ever since 6,now i can teach my mom songs,she taught me my first song,i still havent had lessons.Anyways,it was my grandfather’s piano from church back in the 80′s when he stopped preaching. When we moved,the guys who moved it bumped it into the wall too many times,now the piano is really untuned,of course i can still play it,but the keys are so flat,i still could play anysongs,but now some of the keys are mashed in. My mom has been so busy lately,i been asking her since last year about getting it tuned. We never got around to it. Is there a way i can tune it myself? I got the ear for it,i would be able to know the keys when i hear them.

I have been playing piano by ear since i can remember and writing songs before even then. I am a junior in high school and just started learning how to read music. Is it possible to get into a good music school without having the classical training all those stuck up rich kids claim you need? Or will shear talent, hard work, and heart be enough?

I’ve tried play piano today, but I can’t seem to find the "Rythmic Patterns" course. It only has the demo, and no link to where I could see or even buy "Rythmic Patterns". It’s really the course for me, I want to memorize chords and start playing piano by ear. Is there anything similar to that? Maybe on YouTube?

my friend has been playing piano by ear for 9 or 10 years and wants to learn guitar by ear but will do tabs or whatevver to get the gist of it
and she picks any song up in like 3 seconds so will it be easy
she can recognize any note on guitar but mimic it on piano
so how long should it take for her from your experience to learn guitar almost fully or atleast half way with a teacher and how much by self learning and internet
she picks things up like reallly fast

I (Abraham) was at my Grandma’s house and I can play piano by ear. So I decided to learn the Harry Potter Theme ( or Hedwig’s theme). I can’t play the whole song and I can only play with one hand but I have the general tune of it. This is the start of a series called Learning by Ear which I will continue now that I have a keyboard.
