This is lesson #2 to the video series of How to Play Songs by Ear. For those of you who are wondering where the 2nd part of lesson #1 is [the harmonic progression part], it is actually on its way. The video was all edited and finished… but my friend broke my usb… so… i don’t have the file anymore… and I have to remake it. It took a long time and it’s a bit tedious to do… so please just bear with me and I’ll get it out as soon as I can. On the other hand, I released this video first, because I thought it’s actually better for you guys to see this lesson before you watch part 2 of lesson 1. It will help with your understanding of major and minor keys, etc. So please enjoy and learn something! Stay tuned for more XD Order of songs: Background instrumental: My Dream [Piano Version] – Dia Knock – Dia In Bed – Ju Bora Cry Cry – Dia Wasteful Tears – Navi visit this website for sheets: mardi09.wordpress.com

    Can’t wait for more :)

  4. Segelmeister says:

Ah yeah, this changing harmonies and notes… it’s easy if it just gets a half note higher, sometimes it get’s even easier then. :’D or knowing that you can play a song in so many ways, you can put them down to C-major or a-minor to create a medley, I noticed that haha. But the most annoying thing is that they just change randomly… X’D

  5. smc330 says:

@minzy2311 ah, i’m sorry to hear that. If you dont mind me asking, what parts were confusing? I hope I can be clearer in the future. Thanks XD

  6. smc330 says:

@Segelmeister hahaha yes I agree with you. Usually though, most songs will go up one half step higher. There are few songs that do it randomly, but even still, they modulate to a key that’s related to the previous one in some way. One example I can think of is Kim Woo Joo’s “I Love You”.

thanks for this. it was kinda confusing but ill get it soon enough, maybe after watching it a few more times. im looking forward to ur other videos!! xD

thanks for the lesson! i’m still struggling with playing by ear so u helped a lot :)
i was wondering what do u do after u figured out the melody….how do u find the notes for the left hand? :)

  9. smc330 says:

@FragileHearts haha that will be my next video..
whic h actually was supposed to come before this one.. but it was deleted.. so i have to remake it XP…
but yeah.. this is bascially giving you the foundation for figuring out the left hand..
i teach in a more formulistic manner.. b/c i find it hard to teach “trial and error”
but anyways i hope you stay tuned for more =)

haha, omg….u knoe ur music theories so well! >_<

  11. sornra says:

why doesn’t the f# minor scale end with the f# @2.26 ? and if the seventh raise up half step will the range between 7th and 8th be the same as the major scale. so how can i identify when i found the 7 th note in the song. i still don’t understand however ,thank you for great lesson and great video.

  12. smc330 says:

@sornra haha yes the scale should end with an f# but since it’s just a repeat of the first note i just didn’t add it in
if you raise the 7th note a half step higher, it will also become a half step closer to the 8th note… you can idenitify the 7th note by figuring out the key signature of the song..
based on the key signature you can find what two keys correspond w/ it.. major or minor.. and then figure out from there…
    i hope that helped XD
