I have been playing the piano for about 8 years. I love it! I finished 7 grades and I can play by notes well. I just have a somewhat heard time with rhythm and with accompanying a melody or someone singing. I usually end up playing the same type of accompaniment and it’s too boring. How can I learn to accompany on my own without taking more lessons, because I don’t have much money to take lessons. Also, how can I learn and be able to tell what rhythm to begin playing when I play by ear?

    - Get any book on boogie woogie. It has lots of interesting left hand patterns which you can use

    - May be pick up some books from the library and see if you can find patterns for various styles of music

    - higher grade books on electronic keyboards have accompaniment exercises (aka comping) in various styles. You can pick up some of those.

    - Keep on listening to the built-in rhythms on electronic keyboards to see how the piano accompaniment is played for various styles
