I’ve played the violin for five years, so I know treble. My friends all told me I’m really good at piano (I learn songs by ear) and can play fairly complicated things (though I can’t read music). I’ve decided I finally want to give it a go, but where do I even start? It’s so overwhelming! Do you have any tips for a beginner? Thanks.

I used to take organ lessons when I was younger but stopped enjoying them so quit.. Nowadays I’m pretty skilled on the keyboard and piano, but I learn by ear and from guitar pro etc (copying the digital keyboard).. Anyways I thought about taking piano lessons again and practicing reading music.. But, I’m just wondering would it be worth it? I wanna be able to teach myself from sheet music cuz I think it’d be soo much more thorough, anyone else been through a similar situation and taken lessons? I’d really love to be an epic pianist.. I just don’t feel I’m living up to it yet..
(I’ve only ever tried learning from Organ music sheets – so piano might be a bit harder I think?)
Anyways any good advice is much appreciated
Oh and I forgot to say, I’ve figured out that I just prefer the sound of piano to organ and so am much more enthused to learn!

I’ve been playing around on my sisters keyboard for about 2 months now, and I’m really starting to get into it. I’ve started learning a few chords and I know the notes, you know C D E F G A B and stuff. I’ve started to learn a few song but some I get stuck and don’t finish them, I taught myself play guitar fairly well so I have learned some of the songs I know on guitar onto the piano by ear but its just very simple stuff. I am really getting frustrated with not finishing a song, I have learned parts of "Fur Elise" and "The River Flows In You" but i haven’t gotten far. I practice every day (I probably work harder at learning piano than I do with my school work), maybe I’m just getting to far ahead of myself? I don’t want to learn super easy songs like "twinkle twinkle little star" or "mary had a little lamb" I want something more challenging but not to hard, Do you know any songs that would be good for me to learn? Also I don’t know how to read music sheets and was wondering if that is something difficult to learn on your own (I bet if I could read them it would make things easier)? Also are there any websites that can help me with that?
I Thank You in advance, and apreciate any advice that might help me be a better pianist

can I be more empathetic? Is there a way or is this just going to be unrealized?
Examples:
I can speak two languages fluently and am self-teaching myself a third. My sister also knows 5 (self-taught herself three) and is living in Japan now (she started self-teaching Japanese at 16. She’s 23 now.)
I can do drugs (plenty of them) the night before, don’t sleep and don’t study for a test (undergrad university) and get a good mark (A),
I can manipulate my way out of any situation– even if I’m SEVERELY breaking the law (assault, thievery, etc,)
I have a photographic memory. I can remember nearly EVERYTHING. I don’t need to take notes in class.
I self-learned how to sing by training my voice
I self-taught myself how to draw and paint
I learned piano by ear
I learned about proper nutrition and bodybuilding and now (2 months later) I’m very muscular. It was too easy. I specifically picked something I thought would be hard and it wasn’t. I was disappointed.
Nothing is challenging. Everything seems demeaning to me intellectually. I’m not trying to be arrogant but I can learn things quicker than most other people and run circles around them. I don’t understand why a person can’t do anything they want to if they just use their mind. I can’t relate. I’m sorry. I’m not trying to be rude but I’m really frustrated. I want to be empathetic but I’m finding it REALLY difficult and the fact that I can usually do anything if I put my mind to it is making it worse. It’s eroding my self-esteem. What should I do?
Everyone in my family has high IQ’s.

I used to take piano lessons when I was in middle school. I was pretty decent at it, but I never really practiced because I had other things on my mind at the time, and I stopped taking lessons after a year or so. In high school I took a class on piano. It was pretty much a joke the teacher just gave us a book and told us to learn it over the semester. I learned a fair amount I suppose from it.
I’ve always loved piano. I love the way it sounds. I enjoy a lot of classical music more than modern music which I suppose is a bit strange these days. I have a very nice keyboard in my room which I got when I first took lessons, and I want to start playing again (but I lost the power cord so I need to replace that). I don’t want to take lessons though. I just want to play for fun and try to learn along the way. I really enjoy just playing and making up my own songs even though I can’t really read or write music well. I’m rambling… My question is, what are the best ways to teach myself without an instructor, and if I didn’t even read sheet music and just made up my own music as I went, would I be able to improve as a player and learn to play things by ear over time?
Thanks.

I’ve been dieing to play the song (If you want it) by Relient K on the piano. I would learn it by ear, but I’ve tried… I am much better at reading sheet music than figuring out songs by ear. Does anyone know where I could find this sheet music? If you are wonderfully talented at learning piano by ear, would it possible for you to transcribe this piece? I would really really appreciate it.
Thank you (in advance).

I use to take lessons a few years ago, but then i stopped…now that im a lot older, and my hands are all rusted up, i want to learn to play again…is there a way to teach myself the piano without actually taking lessons? I wanna learn to play by ear but my teacher never thought that much. List composers. Well just say anything that might help someone that wants to learn and has some experience. Where can i find sheet music for free? Ill play anything from baroque to post-modern. Is there a place to learn piano theory online? It would be nice to understand stuff that i would play. Also, im just curious but, do they offer piano in college?
