This is lesson #2 to the video series of How to Play Songs by Ear. For those of you who are wondering where the 2nd part of lesson #1 is [the harmonic progression part], it is actually on its way. The video was all edited and finished… but my friend broke my usb… so… i don’t have the file anymore… and I have to remake it. It took a long time and it’s a bit tedious to do… so please just bear with me and I’ll get it out as soon as I can. On the other hand, I released this video first, because I thought it’s actually better for you guys to see this lesson before you watch part 2 of lesson 1. It will help with your understanding of major and minor keys, etc. So please enjoy and learn something! Stay tuned for more XD Order of songs: Background instrumental: My Dream [Piano Version] – Dia Knock – Dia In Bed – Ju Bora Cry Cry – Dia Wasteful Tears – Navi visit this website for sheets: mardi09.wordpress.com
I just my first guitar for Christmas and I want to teach myself by ear. I’ve played piano for two years. My friend taught the chords A, Amin, C, D, Dmin, E, Emin, Gadd7.
With this I taught myself Last Kiss by Pearl Jam. I’m a big fan of Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Love, The Kinks, U2, and hundreds of others. What songs would I be able to figure out and play by ear?
Learning how to play piano by ear with no sheet music to read from can be taught quickly with the right teaching methods. It essentially requires that you develop the ability to play chords in patterns, and then you can learn how to combine these patterns into different scales and songs.
Choosing the right kind of piano learning program can help you develop the basic techniques for piano, but can also teach you the concept of how to play piano by ear early in your training. This will give you the ability to improvise and play any song you want by ear.
Before you can learn how to play piano by ear, you first must master the ability to find any notes on the keyboard and be able to play them in both major and minor scales. Once you know where to locate each key and are familiar with the 24 major and minor triads, then you can easily learn how to put these chords together into a pattern.
Again the learning techniques you have chosen will determine how quickly you can learn to play by ear. Hand and finger placement is essential to moving through this process quickly. When playing your triad chords of different notes, keep your finger position the same as you play a note in different scales.
For example: you can play E notes in several different spots on the key board and in different scales by keeping your fingers in the same position. Then you can break down these chords into a pattern of hand movements. A pattern will help you create different variations in the sound of the music.
Once you can play more than one patterns of chords in different scales then you can combine these patterns together over and over using the entire keyboard and begin to hear the song you are thinking of in your head.
If this process seems confusing to you, that confusion can be overcome with step by step progression. This is where a quality online piano learning program comes into play.

I’ve been playing piano for a while now, and i’ve been wondering how to play piano by ear. I don’t want to waste time looking for tutorial sheets. HELP! thank you
I can play by ear by listening to piano music, but it’s difficult for me to play by ear if the song doesn’t have a piano in it How can I play by ear listening to a song that doesn’t involve piano?
I’ve been learning to play piano by ear for a year and so It’s now difficult to play notes by sight can anyone tell me were I can find an application or text on how to read notes and play them through hand.
basically I’d like to learn how to play sheet music.
I am 22 and have always wanted to play piano. I don’t want to be a concert pianist, but would rather be able to someday be able to play by ear or improvise while reading sheet music. I’ve started playing this scale I found online everyday and have noticed some improvement in my hand coordination. (Hanon 1) I believe that is which it is. My main goal is to be able to read sheet music, improv a little, and be able to play stuff by ear.
I just don’t have the money to hire a teacher right now being in college. My college also doesn’t offer any piano classes either.
So I was wondering what are some good exercises or videos of exercises that I can use to try and learn how to read sheet music, play by ear, better my coordination, and just become a better piano player overall.
Thanks for any help or suggestions
The way i play a song on piano by ear is to play the chords on my left hand and the melody on my right hand. But it gets reallly repetitive and boring when i play the same pattern over and over on the left hand. For example, if the chord progression was C/G/A/F then my left hand would play CEGE/GBDB/ACEC/FACA. haha sorry if that’s confusing. i know you can vary it by playing the first note of the chord, then playing the next two simultaneously, or different inversions of the chord, but it still sounds really boring…how do people make it so that you can’t really detect the chord progression right away in the song and make it interesting?
sorry if this question doesn’t make sense…:)
How do you find out what notes someone is playing if you cant know by ear and it isnt on a sheet? I want to be able to know what notes are being play…. if someone could please help thank you
I’m pretty good at the piano, but i wanted to really excel in it. I know some people who listen to music and can make ridiculous interpretations of it on the piano, but i’m stuck reading notes. I was just wondering if it was possible to train yourself to play the piano by ear, and if so how hard is it and how long does it take.
